COOS BAY, Ore. - Selling off their donated items to help raise money for hungry kids in our area, a local service organization hosts a unique fundraiser this weekend.

Friday and Saturday, the Coos Bay Elks Lodge is hosting their garage and book sale at their lodge in Downtown Coos Bay.

The event is a way to raise money for Oregon Coast Community Action's Share Bear Snack Pack Program, which helps feed hungry children in Coos and Curry counties.

"It's to feed hungry children on the weekends that don't have anything to eat or not much to eat," says Coos Bay Elks Exalted Ruler Sharon Koberstein. "We support Bunker Hill school, but we pack for all schools up and down the coast. This fall we'll be doing about 1,200 packs every two weeks."

Koberstein says the Elks have been volunteering with the program for over two years.

She adds that every fundraiser helps, and with so much variety of goods to sell, there's a little something for everyone.

"We have bedspreads, furniture, bicycles for kids, dishes, books, tapes, movies, just all kinds of things."

The sale will start again this Saturday, July 31, beginning at 8 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.

The Coos Bay Elks Lodge is located at 265 Central Avenue in Coos Bay.
