Calling all baby boomers! a South Coast agency wants you
Calling all baby boomers!
A new volunteer program along the South Coast, needs your help.
It's called "Babies & Boomers" and it starts next month.
Oregon Coast Community Action was one of 20 organizations in the state to receive a $5,000 grant to increase volunteerism. So they're looking for baby boomers who enjoy working with young children in Early Head Start and Head Start programs.
Madeline Enos is a volunteer coordinator and says the baby boomer generation has a skill set that can teach children a lot.
"We want to tap into that and provide meaningful volunteer opportunities that give them the chance to really utilize their skills and work with young children which are, of course, the most vulnerable population and full of potential," says Madeline.
This new program will take place at nine different sites throughout Coos and Curry Counties.
Madeline says the community outreach in our area is good but more volunteers are always needed.
"I've noticed that this community is passionate about helping their neighbors and those in need, but of course, we're always looking for more volunteers, specifically with our children's programs." Madeline says, "helping out in the classroom, helping kids learn how to garden, reading books to kids, it really has a high impact."
If you'd like to get involved with the "Babies & Boomers" program, head over to the Oregon Coast Community Action website, www.orcca.us.
