Bandon light ordinance ballots due today
BANDON, Ore. -- Bandon residents have until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, to cast their vote on the city's controversial exterior lighting ordinance.
Residents have the choice between allowing the city to become "dark sky compliant" or by voting against the ordinance, which would keep it from taking effect.
Residents are asked not to mail their ballots in at this point, but to drop them off at city hall or the Coos County Courthouse.
The ordinance was passed by the Bandon City Council last year.
I live in Bend and let me tell you, it is not a "pretty dark city". My block has two lights on it, and working my old delivery job (mostly at night), I found many parts of town to be similar. As far as "affecting lots of stuff in the community", and "Californian tree huggers".. I'm not crazy about the immigration from California, but you can't blame everything on them. Bend has become a very progressive city for Central Oregon, if you don't like it I suggest Prineville or La Pine instead of whining about how there's not enough city lights.
The darker the town become the more the crime rate goes up,
I had seen other city and place get robbed due to this nature.
the more light that is on the safer the town will be.
Lot easier to stop this before it happens than after it passes. Over here ,Bend has a light ordinance and its a pretty dark city. It also effects lots of stuff in the community because they can always fall back on the light ordinance . The Californian tree huggers want to keep it the way they found it? well stay in California then. Im done with my anti idiot rant for the day
I agree! Dark streets lead to nothing but problems and we have enough burglaries going on in Bandon. Do we really need to help the thieves by giving them better coverage......I think not! When you live in the cities you deal with lights at night, if you don't like the lights perhaps it's time for you to move into the country!
They are just asking for a lawsuit if you ask me..... The streets need to be lit for many reasons!
A stupid idea on so many levels!
This has been causing a lot of controversy.
