Cruise ship makes emergency stop in Charleston

CHARLESTON, Ore.- People in Charleston where awed to see a cruise ship stopped right near the bar Monday morning.

A US Coast Guard officer says the 800 foot Sea Princess made an emergency medical stop.

The cruise ship arrived at around 9:45 am, meeting up with a U.S. Coast Guard motor lifeboat.

Cost Guard officers transported the ill 71 year-old male passenger and the ship doctor to Bay Area Hospital.

The passenger began experiencing heart problems Monday on the cruise ship.

The doctor was later returned to the ship and it continued its journey back to San Francisco.

Coast Guard officer Chris Wheatley said they don't remember the last time a cruise ship came that far into Charleston waters.
