Cyclist injured in hit-and-run off Hwy 101
PORT ORFORD, Ore. -- A bicyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident early Friday morning on Hubbard Creek Road near Port Orford, police said.
Police got a call just after 4:30 Friday morning about an abandoned bike on Hubbard Creek Road near its intersection with Highway 101. The caller said that the bike belonged to a man who frequently rides on the road. Emergency crews found the bike's rider off of the side of the road.
An initial investigation identified the cyclist as 47-year-old Anthony Jan Mijs, who lives along Hubbard Creek Road. Mijs was taken to Curry General Hospital before being taken by helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical in Springfield.
