Fiber Optic cuts cause problems once again

Cell phone and Internet service was interrupted for hundreds of Coos County residents and businesses, and many more in Curry County, on Thursday, after a Fiber Optic cable was cut.

Crews with Frontier Communications say they got on the scene about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday and went to work trying to find where the line was cut. A task they say is very close to trying to find a needle in a haystack.

This haystack was along Highway 42, near milepost 32.

They tell KCBY that a contractor working with A.T. and T. accidentally cut the line while working on one of their own fiber optic lines in that area.

Officials told KCBY that when it came to phone service, it was hit and miss. Sometimes residents were able to dial out, other times they weren't, and those calling long distance had more of problem, while some cell phone users were also unable to dial out.

Internet service was down and affected some businesses, like KCBY.

From the time the crews start repairing a line in these situations, we're told the process usually takes anywhere from three to five hours.

Workers started repairing the line around 2:30 p.m. and service, at least at KCBY, was restored around 6:30 p.m.
