Friends of Shore Acres celebrate 25 years of success

NORTH BEND, Ore.- They have been lighting up the coast and our hearts for 25 years now, and yesterday they celebrate all they have accomplished for our community and visitors.

Back in December of 1986 The Friends of Shore Acres established themselves, creating a community of volunteers providing services for park visitors.

For the past 25 years they have hosted garden concerts, provided visitors with tips on how to grow on the Oregon coast, held flower days, and have garden sitters sharing the history of the popular shore acres.

"We all know prior to 85 we all adopted Shore Acers as our favorite spot on the south coast. When we had visitors, families and friends in town that's where we would take them, Shore Acres. There was already a lot of community support embedded in our communities" says Co-chair of the Holiday Lights, David Brigham.

And David says the parks fame is in the holiday lights.

This past holiday season nearly 60 thousand visitors from 25 different countries came to admire the Shore Acres holiday sparkle.

Something David say helps our local economy.

"So our reach is significant. And one of the things that I really enjoying doing is looking at our Guest Book. We encourage our host to have our guest sign a guest book and put comments in there, and some of the comments are just remarkable" exclaims Brigham.

In 1987 The Holiday Lights at Shore Acres lit our coastal sky for the first time; and since then 6,000 lights have grown to a 300,000 holiday light display.
