Gun Rally: 'That's something you would expect from some third world country'

COOS BAY, Ore. -- We have holidays to appreciate our mothers, past presidents and loved ones... but what about guns?
Pro-gun groups around the country named Saturday, January 19, 'Gun Appreciation Day.'
Gun rights groups had people flock to gun stores, ranges and shows to support the second amendment.
Staff at the Hole in the Wall Gun Shop in Coos Bay invited people to get involved.
Ken Lawrence, owner of the gun shop, says although it probably won't be a national holiday, he thinks it is pretty important. "It's something the people can feel positive about for this particular year, for this particular day, but like I said, I don't believe, I don't predict that it's ever gonna be a national holiday," he said. " It's not gonna happen every year."
Thousands of people in Coos County own guns and over 4,000 people have concealed handgun licenses.
It's not hard in our area to find people who are supportive of a 'Gun Appreciation Day.'
Another group, Ceasefire Oregon, wasn't at the rally, but members said they had concerns about such an event. "The problem is, that they're advocating that everybody bring their gun for it, and the fact that we're having a mass showing of people on the steps of capital buildings waving their guns around, that's something you would expect from some third world country," said Baldr Odinson.
Although "gun appreciation day" might not become a national holiday, it did provide for residents a good opportunity to talk about the issues.
One person that shouldnt have a gun is the reporter!!! My god! she was waving that thing all over the place with her finger on the trigger! Please take a gun safety class befor you touch another one!
Ridiculous title. So much for neutral reporting. I am a liberal and I vote a on democratic lines only. However if this gun control rubbish passes. I will simply never vote Democratic again. Obviously I will not republican either. The day guns kill and do as much damage to the environment, while contributing to urban sprawl and global warming, is the day I will be willing to look at some form of serious gun control. Until that happy day I will continue to fight against all measures of gun control. While I support a "womans' right to choose" we should also remember that if people really cared about life they would follow the anti choice folks. Both guns and abortion need to be left alone. Both are a personal right.
Wesleigh,
Why the bias in the title of the article? Â You could at least have a neutral title, couldn't you? Â How about you do a follow-up story about how many people went to the rally in Salem and, contrary to Mr. Odinson's prediction, there was not "people on the steps of capital buildings waving their guns around" like in "some third world country"?
Denver, maybe you need to come down from the clouds and back to reality. The guns are what protect us from the criminals and that is including the government. The government is against us and if they take all of our guns away then they will have all the control and our freedom will be gone. Do you not see what the hell is happening these days. It is turning into a freekin dictatorship. Wake up and pay attention. We all need to stand up for our rights and put the government in place. I believe in the constitution and what it stands for. Down with Tyranny!!!
People shouldn't own guns because it gives them more power against society. How can society change if there are people that can fight back? We need to take all the guns, that's the truth. When we take the guns, we can keep everyone in check and our government, who works so hard to make society better, can tell us what is best for us and take care of us. No life is worth sacrificing government care. No life is worth saving if other lives can be saved by taking guns. If you let a bad guy into your house, it is your fault and you deserve to die. We need to be able to only let bad guys have guns so we know who has guns and we can find them. that is my thought.
Georgia, there have been lots of shoot outs between criminals and law-abiding gun owners, you just don't hear about those on the news. They don't follow the popular agenda. I'll choose to be prepared during those seconds that count and not wait for the police to come and scrape my families bodies off the floor.
What did you say George? You were talking in circles. Please reread and recomment
They will never take my gun's.
Leave our damn guns alone!!!!
I don't think it matters what us Non NRA people say...Just hope there's not a mass shoot out one of these days between a criminal and a 'legal' gun owner that kills more people than might have been killed. I still say leave it to the Authorities...oh...but the Authorities have said they Don't care and won't prosecute "legal gun owners' now....Fun Fun for the rest of us
