Local baseball fields getting a spruce up for opening day

NORTH BEND, Ore. -- Little league baseball is getting a boost in North Bend, just in time for the start of the season.

Local businesses are pitching in to rebuild and improve the baseball fields at Airport Heights, Ferry Road and Boynton Parks.

Ken Ware Chevrolet and General Motors are donating thousands of pounds of dirt that works well for parks in wet climates.

John Newsom of the dealership says the field were in rough shape. "They were pretty hard, and in the beginning we just tried putting sand on them, but then when it would rain, it would just hold all the water and the kids couldn't play," he said. "Now, with the TurfAce we mixed in, we've been revamping the field, revamping the batters boxes, and they're playable when it rains."

A lot of parents who have kids in little league are also donating services to make the changes.
