Man charged for fire that charred 8 acres along Oregon coast

LANGLOIS, Ore. (AP) — Police arrested a 20-year-old man accused of starting a fire that burned eight acres of dry grass along a southern Oregon beach.

Witnesses told authorities the man set the grass on fire with a lighter late Friday afternoon and then fled to a nearby home when he was unable to stop it from spreading.

Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings says 20-year-old Andrew Berntsen of Curry County was booked into jail on charges of reckless burning and disorderly conduct.

The fire did not threaten any buildings.
