ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — Firefighters and sheriff's officers have rescued a man from a car submerged in high water near two storm-fed rivers in Albany, Ore.

Albany Fire Department Division Chief Michael Trabue said the man stayed alive Thursday afternoon by breathing from a 6-inch air bubble trapped near the vehicle's ceiling. Only the car's roof was visible.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital. Trabue said he couldn't provide any details on his condition. The Democrat Herald described the man as elderly. He was alone in the vehicle.

It took about 25 minutes for crews to rescue the man. The fire official didn't know how long the driver had been in the water.

Trabue says the vehicle had floated about 400 feet away from Bryant Way, which dips and rises as it passes through low-lying farmland still flooded in areas due to recent heavy rains.
