Man seriously injured after crashing motorcycle in police chase

COOS BAY, Ore. -- A man was seriously injured Tuesday after he crashed his motorcycle into a marked police SUV while trying to flee a Coquille Tribal Police officer.

Officials said John Bracken, 40, of Coos Bay, was taken to Sacred Heart at Riverbend in Springfield with serious injuries after he was thrown from his motorcycle.

Oregon State Police said Bracken was riding his '96 Kawasaki east on Highway 243, trying to elude a Coquille Tribal Police Department officer.

As he came around a corner on Ocean Blvd. SE, officials said he crashed into the front of a marked Coos Bay Police Chevy Tahoe.

Bracken, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in some brush on the side of Central Ave.

The Coos bay officer driving the SUV was unhurt in the crash.
