Mural brings 'Tall Ship' to North Bend

NORTH BEND, Ore. -- North Bend is getting it's own tall ship, but this one will be here on a more long term basis.

The artist known to many around town as Simon 'Sketch' Whiteowl has been commissioned to paint 'The North Bend Two' on two sides of the Coastal Paper Company building.

It's all a part of downtown North Bend's urban renewal project.

Sketch says it is a pleasure to paint a piece of history. "I enjoy doing historical murals, because it kind of shows what the area is about, and kind of, gives them an idea for people to kind of see what happened back in the day here."

The North Bend Two depicted in the mural was the last tall ship to be built in the bay area before modern technology took over in the shipbuilding industry.
