OSP: North Bend man killed in crash Monday night

EDDYVILLE, Ore. -- State police say a North Bend man is dead, after a crash in Lincoln County Monday evening.

Troopers say that just after 6:00 pm, Nathan S. Smith, 26, of Coquille, was driving a pickup westbound on Highway 20 just East of Eddyville, when he crossed the center line into the eastbound lane.

State police say a semi being driven by Craig A. Dee, 47, of Salem, veered onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the two vehicles collided nearly head-on.

A passenger in the pickup, William Roger Beaudry II, 39, of North Bend, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police say both men in the pickup, which is registered to West Coast Contractors, were wearing seat belts.

Troopers say Smith and Dee were not injured in the crash.

The two lane highway was closed for 90 minutes before being open to one lane of travel. The highway was completely re-opened about 10:30 p.m.

State police are continuing the investigation and ask that any witnesses to the crash who have not spoken to authorities contact Trooper Tucker at (541) 265-5354.
