OSP: Trooper finds 8 pounds of birthday pot

LAKEVIEW, Ore. -- An illegal birthday surprise was foiled by the Oregon State Police on Monday, after troopers say they found 8 pounds of pot wrapped up as birthday gifts.

At around 6:30 pm, an OSP trooper stopped a 1990 Ford van displaying Minnesota license plates northbound on Highway 395 near milepost 139 for a speeding violation.

Troopers say they identified two men as driver Donald Nalezny, 19, and passenger Jordan A. Braun, 21, both from Sonoma, California.

Authorities say an investigation during the traffic stop led the trooper to discover two wrapped birthday presents, which contained a total of about 8 pounds of marijuana.

Officials say an ice cooler inside the vehicle had approximately 10 ounces of frozen hash oil.

The estimated value of the seized marijuana is $20,000.

The two men were cited and released to appear in Lake County Circuit Court for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance.
