Police: Man assaults apologetic teen with chair

COOS BAY, Ore. -- Police in Coos Bay say a man was arrested Wednesday, after he assaulted a teenager with a chair.

Coos Bay police were called to Abby's Pizza at around 9:45 pm, for a 911 report of a man assaulting a juvenile with a chair.

Witnesses told police the man, later identified as Cameron Filley, 53, of Roseburg, became angry when a group of teens started laughing and singing after their choir performance.

Police say the man started yelling and cursing at the kids.

A 15-year-old boy approached the man to apologize for the group and Filley hit him with a chair, police said.

Officers said after assaulting the boy with the chair, Filley began punching the boy in the face and head.

Officials say the man left the business before police got there.

A parent of one of the kids followed Filley to a nearby hotel, where police arrested him.

Filley was lodged in the Coos County Jail, charged by police with felony third degree assault.

The victim was taken to Bay Area Hospital, where he was treated and released for his injuries, police said.
