Police: Man hits woman with van after domestic disturbance
WINSTON, Ore. -- A driver sped off after striking a pedestrian on Highway 42, just after state police say they received a call of a domestic disturbance between the two people involved.
According to Sergeant Matt Bowersox of the Oregon State Police, Samuel Adee and Ruth Hedrick were reported in a domestic disturbance in a Winston area residence at just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Adee and Hedrick were reported to be living together in the Roseburg area.
Just minutes later police said that a 1977 Ford van driven by Adee had struck a pedestrian, Hedrick, alongside the nearby Highway 42.
OSP said that Adee, 57 of Roseburg, initially stopped at the scene before driving two miles away and parking the van in a parking lot. Officers located Adee in a gas station close to where they found the van.
Police arrested Adee for driving under the influence of intoxicants, and took him to the Douglas County Jail. He was cited and released but could face more charges pending an investigation into the incident.
The 52-year-old Hedrick was taken to Mercy Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield were she is being treated for injuries.
