Police dogs practice taking a bite out of crime

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A ruff crowd gathered Tuesday to practice sniffing out crime and collaring suspects.

Springfield Police hosted the Oregon Police Canine Association spring seminar. The event brought 130 dogs and their handlers to the area from police agencies around Western Oregon.

The exercises included searching for suspects and apprehending people.

Officer Kristi Butcher from the Portland Police Bureau volunteers to be a self-described "dog toy," a training decoy for events like this one.
