Reedsport homicide suspect found hanged in jail

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) - An inmate found hanged in a Northern California jail as the suspect in the slaying of a woman in Oregon and two carjacking-related cases.

Jail officials told the Marin Independent Journal on Monday that the inmate was 30-year-old Jeffrey Boyce.

Boyce was found dead at the Marin County Jail on Friday.

Boyce was arrested in April after police said he carjacked a man in Rohnert Park and attempted to carjack a Mill Valley woman.

He was also a suspect in the slaying of 57-year-old Kirsten Englund in Oregon. Englund was found naked and face down at an area along Highway 101 about three miles south of Reedsport.

The newspaper reported that Boyce was on suicide watch because he tried to hang himself following his arrest.

Boyce's mother told authorities in Oregon that her son believed someone in the federal government was spying on him daily.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office turned the investigation over to the San Rafael Police Department and the Sonoma County coroner's office.
