PORTLAND, Ore. - If you get an email from a utility company, telling you to click a link to see your bill, don't do it!
NW Natural is warning its customers, and customers of Portland General Electric and Pacific Power, that scammers are trying to trick them to get access to their personal information.
Utility customers in Oregon have been getting the emails. They claim to be from Atmos Energy, out of Dallas, Texas, or PG&E, a San Francisco-based utility. The emails state that your bill is ready, and provides a link to click to view it.
That link actually starts downloading malware to your computer, something that could put your personal information at risk.
If you're not sure about the authenticity of an email, don't open it. You can access your bill at your utility's website.
