Schools warn parents about chicken pox

NORTH BEND, Ore. - The school district called all parents with a recorded call Wednesday night warning about chicken pox.

So far they have had two confirmed cases and two possible cases.

It’ protocol to call the parents about contagious diseases, said Bill Yester, interim superintendent at North Bend School District.

Yester said it’s good timing since kids won’t really be around each other as much since they’ll have two weeks of break from classes.

Coos County Public Health said the two cases only had one vaccine for chicken pox. Schools require one, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends two.

Health officials said that if the students had received the booster shot, chances are they would be in the clear.
