Survival suit found in Coos Bay - where did it come from?

COOS BAY, Ore. - The Coast Guard was called out Wednesday afternoon after a survival suit was found in Coos Bay.

A little before 4:30 p.m., the Coast Guard was tipped off by a Good Samaritan about an orange survival suit that was in the water near Fossil Point.

A Station Coos Bay ground party was sent to the area and recovered the suit from the mud. The suit had fishing vessel HORNET stenciled on it.

Two Air Station North Bend helicopters and a Station Coos Bay Motor Life Boat were diverted to search the area. Officials with the Coast Guard say they didn't find anyone, or any other signs of distress.

The Coast Guard says a vessel called HORNET out of Yaquina Bay, Ore. reported no one missing or in distress, and all of their survival suits are accounted for.

There is another fishing vessel on record called HORNET out of Washington State, but no one has been reported missing or in distress from that boat either.

The Coast Guard has suspended the search.
