Sheriff: Speed, alcohol factors in teen's fatal crash

CURRY COUNTY, Ore. -- The Curry County Sheriff's office says speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal crash early Friday morning.

At around 4:45 am, the Sheriff’s office received a 911 call about a traffic crash on the North Bank Chetco Road near the former Upper Chetco School.

The caller reported finding a vehicle which had crashed with a male adult inside who appeared to be deceased.

The Sheriff's office says a deputy confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, Ryan Olds, 18, was deceased.

The registered owner of the vehicle had called 911 to report that her vehicle was missing near Loeb Park, and that she had not given anyone permission to drive her vehicle.

Deputies contacted Gehrig and through the information she gave them and other witness statements, deputies were able to identify the deceased driver as Olds.

The cause of the accident is under investigation but it is believed that speed and alcohol were contributing factors.

The next of kin were notified and the Curry County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
