Should Oregon ban beach smoking? State holds public hearings

COOS BAY, Ore. -- A proposal to ban smoking from Oregon beaches is on the table tonight in Coos Bay.

Bay area residents gave their input on the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s plan Tuesday in a public hearing at the public library.

Smoking was already banned in state parks.

If smoking is outlawed on the beaches people could only spark up cigarettes in cars, campsites or in designated rest areas.

The final public hearing will be held in Salem at the North Mall Office Building Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.
