State senator ending over 30 years of elected service

North Bend, Ore. -- A business lunch quickly turned into a welcome home event for State Senator Joanne Verger on Wednesday.

Verger is ending her more than 30 years of elected service and is returning home to Coos Bay.

On Wednesday, business leaders honored her many years of service at a lunch at the Mill Casino.

Verger says she has many fond memories from her time in public service, but one stood out more than most. "I think one of the brightest spots that I had was when my bullying bill passed unanimously through the house and the senate, and now have have some protections for children in schools that will be bullied and mistreated, and that was dear to my heart," she said.

Verger says she will now focus on writing a non-political book and volunteer her time for local causes she feels strongly about.
