Washington teen killed in crash on Oregon Dunes

WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. - A 16-year-old boy died when he jumped his motorcycle over a sand dune and collided with an all-terrain vehicle climbing the same dune.

Mason Zigler, 16, of Port Angeles, Wash., died at the scene from his injuries. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. Thursday at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the teen jumped his KTM motorcycle off a dune and collided with a Polaris RZR side-by-side ATV climbing the dune.

The Polaris was driven by Christopher Cowen, 45, of Springfield. His passenger, Amy Cowen, 22, of Springfield was treated at Lower Umpqua Hospital for unspecified injuries, according to the sheriff's office.
