Trucker from Coos Bay gets stuck under overpass

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. - A Walmart truck got stuck under a railroad overpass Monday morning, blocking a rural Marion County road in both directions, the sheriff's office said.
The trucker driver, 63-year-old Glenn V. Bickford of Coos Bay, told deputies he misread the height restriction sign on River Road and thought his truck and trailer would fit. The trailer is 13-feet, 6-inches tall. The underpass is restricted to 12-foot, 9-inch tall vehicles.
Bickford was following the advice of his truck's GPS system between Salem and Monmouth.
Bickford was cited by Deputy Burnham for violating the road use limits. Burnham remained at the scene to assist Bickford in contacting his employer and removing the truck and trailer.
Wreckers have been called, but the response time from Woodburn will likely leave the road blocked for several hours, the sheriff's office said.
Marion County Public Works is posting signs to warn drivers to use alternate routes to Independence.
not funny
he didn't see the sign....obviously!!! And if he'd left his foot on it,he would have made it through!
Do we rely on GPS to get it correct???!!!!
There's a term called airdraft, the difference between ground and highest point on vessel (vehicle) and you need to know this when going under bridges. GPS can't calculate it for you.
Bummer
RECALCULATING!!
Wal-mart has several different manufacturers they pick up from in the independence area. The truck you're looking at is a peterbilt 386 , 63' stand up sleeper with air dam approximate height 12'6 , and the bridge was or is 12'9.
I live in salem oregon where it happend
Uhh it's real I seen it in salem
Photoshop. A good one, butâ¦. If this were real, there's be a lot of damage to the fairing on the top of the sleeper. And in any case, the damage seen is not indicative of hitting a bridge.
If he'd just left his foot on it....he would have made it!!or he was delivering that bridge..
that sucks
This is a shiny example of technology making the masses dumber. Idiocracy will soon be our future.
Only at Wal-Mart!
Oh no! Not a Wal-Mart truck!!!!
I read the article, the driver claimed to be going to the Walmart in Monmouth. There is no Walmart in Monmouth or Independence. I wonder how Walmart would have liked him delivering to Bi-mart.
That is not good looks like a Wal-Mart Truck. At least the driver didnt get hurt.
Poor guy. Just lost his wal Mart gig. My company's directions are worse than my gps. In Canada they routed me through. 12 6' bridge. I saw the sign before i Made the turn
Looks more like the low bridge on hwy 58 at Lookout reservoir above Dexter Lake.
That looks an awful lot like the underpass out near lakeside.
Now, THAT's a big OOPS!
That kind of thing is what happens when one associates with Walmart. Hope the Bridge is ok.
Oopsies! Hahahaha. This really sucks!
Everyone on the road; needs to read road signs and things like this would not happen. CDL holders need to be a example; because they have more training then the normal person.
The Cab seems to be four to five feet passed the bridge. This doesn't have to be fake if you know how much camera angles affect photos...
Reminds me of the lyrics of a song: Low bridge, everybody down. LOL
edit
I'm so confused how that could happen the truck is way taller than the bridge anyone have an idea how the trailer got smashed when the truck did not
Truck fit, just not the trailer!
Whoa!
You think he bought the gps from Walmart?
walmart strikes again.
Ouch....!
That is such a fun road to drive. Independence to Salem!
Not just you. Lol
Is it just me or did any one else notice a problem with this pic the truck is taller than the trailer and bridge but not a scratch on it ????
Regardless of the gps, he shoulda read the sign before plowing through a low bridge!!
gives a whle new meaning to "flat" screen tvs lol
O my!
Brandi Rule Please show this to Christohper..... The same thing happened to us looking for a Costco in Monmouth...only we didnt crash into a bridge we ended up at a farm lol!!!
Wendi Herr Robertson show this to Michael Robertson
clearly states, 12 feet 6 inches. and your truck?? my guess 14 plus. hope you got good insurance.
dumb ass! how many sings are there saying low clearance? even says it right on the bridge right behind the cab of the truck. I should get my CDL if this guy can get it, it should be a cake walk....
Gives new meaning to WalMart Rollback, huh? ;)
leave it to walmart.... always taking shorcuts lol
