Voters shoot down Bandon lighting ordinance

BANDON, Ore. -- Bandon voters have rejected a dark skies exterior lighting ordinance, that would have placed new regulations on outdoor lights within city limits.
The dark skies ordinance was voted down 56% to 44%.
Ballots were mailed out in late February and were due Tuesday night.
Opponents of the measure, who put the ordinance on a special election ballot, said they were concerned about their property rights and possible enforcement issues with government agencies outside of city limits.
Not good for "them".... waste of energy and the water (going over the dams) it takes to light space when everyone is asleep and your health is at stake watch this PSAÂ http://www.insurancequotes.org/hidden-cost-light-pollution. Just because we can does not mean that we have to... the people in the 1850-1930's managed just fine with lanterns... now we have flashlights that can burn your eyes out (carry one) and cars with more than enough light to travel down any county lane in any condition after dark... and the car will turn the lights out when you reach the front door. Last, if light meant you were secure, walking around in LA at midnight would be the safest place on the planet.Â
Good for them. Just what we need another law for some low level, bottom feeding  government worker to tell people what to do on their own property.
i surely would prefer security over dark skies
