Police: Woman hit didn't activate crosswalk signal

COOS BAY, Ore. -- A woman was transported to Bay Area Hospital after being struck by a vehicle as she was walking Friday morning.

Coos Bay police say the woman is in her 40's, and was struck while she was walking in the area of Newmark and Schoneman in the Empire District.

The accident happened around 7:00 am.

Police say the woman walked into oncoming traffic in the crosswalk on Newmark, and witnesses told then she did not activate the crosswalk signal.

Medical crews responded and took the woman to the hospital with what police say are non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep was cited for driving while suspended and driving uninsured, police said.
