CHALLIS, Idaho (KBOI) --- Residents in Custer's County woke up to a shaky morning after a magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit near the small town of Challis, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The USGS reports the 4.1 earthquake's epicenter was reported about 9 miles northwest of Challis.

The Custer County Sheriff's Office says as soon the earthquake hit just after 6:20 a.m., the phone calls came pouring in. A dispatcher told KBOI 2News that the sheriff's office received about 20 calls from residents. There were no reports of any damage.

The county has received several earthquake reports over the past few weeks.

In 1983, two children were killed when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit the Challis-Mackay area. It's the largest recorded earthquake in Idaho and caused about $12.5 million in damages.
