Search on for teen missing in SE Oregon

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A 19-year-old from Oklahoma inspired to live off the land by the movie "Into the Wild" is missing in remote, rugged country in southeastern Oregon.

The Harney County sheriff's office says a search began Tuesday for Dustin Self on the north end of Steens Mountain after a rancher found his truck had slid off a backcountry road. Searchers hope for good weather Thursday so they can put up a plane to look for him.

Victor and Tammy Self say their son left suburban Oklahoma City a month ago for Oregon, where he was interested in churches practicing a South American religion that uses a hallucinogenic tea as a sacrament.

Tammy Self says her son called his girlfriend in Texas March 16 saying he had gotten lost following his GPS.
