NORTH BEND, Ore. -- With a Winter Storm Warning going into effect in our area, be prepared to wake up Friday morning with snow on the ground.

Even at the beach.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, a Winter Weather Advisory and a Freeze Watch for Coos County.

What does this mean? Snow. Possibly up to 3 inches clear down to the ocean. Elevations above 1,000 feet could see as much as 6 inches drop overnight.

That means roads are going to get slick, the NOAA particularly concerned about Highway 42 East of Myrtle Point.

With freezing temps continuing through the rest of the week and into next week, authorities are reminding people to take precautions:

  • Make sure if you have to travel you go with a full tank of fuel, a flashlight, blankets, food water and extra clothing.
  • Give yourself some extra time to reach your destination.
  • Make sure your water pipes at home are protected. Tips here.
  • Don't forget your pets! Tips here.
  • Be sure to check on elderly and disabled family and neighbors.

With some schools off already on Friday, there won't be as big of an impact. KCBY News will start updating closures and delays, along with current road conditions, at around 5:00 am on the air, at KCBY.com and our Facebook page.

As always, if you get some good winter weather photos or video, head over to the YouNews page and upload it there.
