Training near Portland, Seattle Coast Guard come to pleasure craft's aid

PORTLAND, Ore. — U.S. Coast Guard crews from Seattle training near Portland rescued three people off a 43-foot pleasure craft taking on water near North Portland Harbor on Wednesday.

The 43-foot pleasure craft sank north of the North Portland Harbor near Hayden Island, Ore., in about 8 feet of water.

The distress call came in at 4:30 p.m. from a person whose boat was taking on water.

Two 25-foot Response Boat-Small crews from Marine Safety and Security Team Seattle were conducting training in the area and diverted to the scene, where they took the three people off the sinking boat.

The three people were taken to Jantzen Beach in Portland.
 
The pleasure craft has approximately 200 gallons of fuel onboard; however, there are no reports of pollution at this time.
