PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Bernie Madoff says there are only a few politicians he's fond of, and at the top of the list is U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden.

In an interview from federal prison, the disgraced financier told Politico that the senator from Oregon is extremely intelligent, has a tremendous amount of integrity and is the most impressive politician he's ever met.

Madoff told Politico he first met Wyden more than a decade ago while in Washington to testify on an issue.

Madoff has served five years of a 150-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to fraud charges that arose in 2008.

After the fraud was uncovered, Wyden donated $14,000 in Madoff campaign contributions to the Oregon Food Bank.

Politico reports Wyden declined to discuss its interview with Madoff.
