Hawkins breaks strike out record in no-hitter

EUGENE, OR - With her school record 17 strikeouts, Cheridan Hawkins logged her second no-hitter of 2013 and lifted No. 4 Oregon over Seattle in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader at Howe Field.

Only an error in the top of the seventh inning prevented Hawkins from earning a perfect game in the 4-0 victory.

The Ducks got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning when Sam Pappas stole third base.  The ball got away from Seattle's Allegra Wilde, allowing Pappas to take home as well.

Oregon scored again in the fifth on a two-run single by Kaylan Howard to make it 3-0.  Janie Takeda added an RBI single in the sixth for the final run.

But it was Hawkins' dominance in the cirle that stole the show.  The freshman from Anderson, California struck out the side in the first, third and sixth innings.  Hawkins picked up her 16th win of the season.

The Ducks also won game two of the doubleheader, 6-4 to up their record to 42-7 overall.
