Marist boys off to good start at OSAA state track meet
EUGENE, OR - Marist's Austin Baird won the 5A boys long jump and teammate Liam Henshaw finished third to give the Spartans 16 early points at the OSAA State Track & Field Championships on Friday.
Marshfield's Dalton Milburn repeated as state champion in the 5A boys discus with a throw of 171-09. He later finished fourth in the shot put.
Sheldon's Jacob Foutz won the 6A boys discus. His best went 174-04. Foutz later finished third in the shot put.
Sweet Home's Annie Whitfield took home the 4A girls javelin title. She matched he district throw with a toss of 141-11.
West Albany's Rachel Proteau repeated as the 5A girls high jump champion. Proteau cleared 5-07, matching her state meet record jump from a year ago.
"High jump is such a mental sport that when I'm the only one left at theh lower heights, it's harder for me to focus because then it doesn't really seem like a real meet.," said Proteau.
