Ernie Kent could be returning soon to a sideline near you.

According to a source, the former Duck head coach is close to making his return to collegiate coaching with Colorado State, where he once served as an assistant.  The Rams head coaching job came open after Tim Miles left last month, and could be a nice landing spot for Kent, who has spent the last two years working in broadcasting and in the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Kent was fired by Oregon in March of 2010 after seasons of 8-23 and 16-16, after being told by then athletic director Mike Bellotti in February that he would be done at the end of that season.

According to the source, Kent is the favorite among three finalists for the job in Ft. Collins, which also includes former Oregon assistant Mike Dunlap, and former Iowa State head coach Larry Eustachy.
