KVAL Sports predictions: Beavs invade Southern California

OREGON STATE VS. SAN DIEGO STATE

Tom Ward

Can anyone slow down Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion and the OSU passing game?  It certainly won’t be San Diego State, as the Aztecs gave up two passing TD’s of longer than 20 yards in a 42-7 drubbing at the hands of Ohio State.  The Buckeyes only had 182 yards passing, but racked up 445 total against the pourous Aztec defense.  Look for Brandin Cooks and Richard Mullaney to grab at least one TD apiece, and TE Connor Hamlett will get in on some of that action as well.  The Beavers won’t have Storm Woods, but they won’t need him.  Prediction:  Oregon State 47, San Diego State 17

Oregon State's win over Utah has given the team the confidence it needs moving forward. Although they are dealing with injuries, the team seemed very confident all week long. The first game on the road is the toughest. San Diego State shouldn't be a problem for the Beavs. Sean Mannion continues to throw the ball well, despite not having a run game. Look for the Beavers to air it out and watch for true freshman Victor Bolden to take a kickoff return to the house. Prediction: Oregon State 35, San Diego State 21

San Diego State has given up 40 and 42 points in their two games this season. Combine that with the Beavers top-ranked passing attack and it could get ugly at Qualcomm Stadium.  Sean Mannion will have another stellar outing and we’ll see Cody Vaz make an appearance early in the 4th quarter as the Beavers move to 3-1 on the year.  Prediction: Oregon State 48, San Diego State 13

Oregon State has a golden opportunity to win back to back games on the road and increase its overall winning streak to 3 straight.  They should have no problem getting the job done this weekend.  The Beavers head to California to face San Diego State, a team that has struggled in losses to Ohio State and FCS squad Eastern Illinois.  The Aztecs have been outscored 82-26 in those two games.  Even though Oregon State lacks a strong running attack, the Beaver offense should be licking its chops in anticipation of putting up some big numbers on the SDSU defense.  The Aztecs have surrendered 489 yards of total offense per game.  Mike Riley returns to San Diego, where his coaching career stalled in the NFL, but he will bring back a big win.  Prediction: Oregon State 48, San Diego State 17

THE STANDINGS
Last week, John was the only one to correctly predict Oregon State's victory in Salt Lake City.  As a result, he sits alone in first place, but Tom also has six points.
