Professional basketball comes to Coos Bay

By Kristina Nelson

COOS BAY - It's not every day you get to watch top professional basketball talent from around the state play in your own backyard, but that's exactly what basketball fans got Tuesday night.

The International Basketball League, also known as the IBL, made a stop at the Prosper Hall Gym on Southwestern's Coos Bay campus, in a contest between the Portland Chinooks and the Central Oregon Hotshots.

The Chinooks, feature top NBA hopefuls DaJuan Tate, former Oregon State player David Lucas and former University of Oregon player David Jackson.

The Central Oregon Hotshots, are the highest scoring team in the nation.

The IBL is looking at putting together a 2009 team, to be called the "Oregon Wave," which would have shared home games here in Coos Bay.

In case you missed them, the Chinooks will be playing again Wednesday night against a team made up of top talent from around the nation at 7 pm.
