COOS BAY, Ore. -Building the baseball program from the ground-ball up are local players and coaches assisting with weekend Coos Bay Coast League Camps.

As many as 100 young ball players have been coming out swinging these past few Saturdays, excited to learn the fundamentals from both the Marshfield High School and Southwestern Oregon Community College Baseball Teams.

Aside from practicing how to hit and field balls, this camp also serves as an opportunity for players ages five to 12 to register for the Coast League.

League President, Dale Inskeep started the camp three weeks ago, much earlier in the year than normal to not only get kids comfortable with the game but to build their enthusiasm and focus on the game as a whole.

"Teach them how to throw, how to catch and really run the fundamentals," said Inskeep. "Our leagues goal is really about sportsmanship, number one, the fundamental of baseball and the life long joy of baseball."

There's still two more Saturday's of camp that will conclude on March 20. After that, coaches will place kids on a team and get their practice schedules out to them.

For more information, you can call Dale Inskeep at (541)297-1555.
