PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Ellen Cook scored 27 points and South Eugene shot 56 percent from the field on the way to a 67-58 win over Beaverton during Thursday's quarterfinals of the OSAA Class 6A girls basketball tournament.
The Axemen, who never trailed in the game, shot 58 percent from 3-point range (7 of 12) and made 22 of 39 shots overall.
Cook made three 3-pointers and hit 9 of 14 shots overall for South Eugene (23-5). Olivia Roberts added 15 points and Jessica Shivers had 11 for the Axemen.
Marissa Rakestraw scored 21 points and Nicole Hartzog had 19 for Beaverton (21-7).
South Eugene asserted itself early in the game when Cook scored six points during an 11-0 run to close out the first quarter. The Axemen led 32-23 at halftime, but built a 16-point lead during the third quarter and coasted to the victory.
