SPRINGFIELD, OR - Marshfield and Marist both picked up four individual victories on day one of the Midwestern League Track & Field Championships at Silke Field, but it's the Pirates who hold the boys, girls and co-ed team lead.
Marshfield got all four wins in the field events on Wednesday. It started with Kirby Neale winning the girls discus with a throw of 112-9 just edging Springfield's Tiffiny Rattanaphosy (111-4).
Lauren McGowne then won the girls long jump. That was followed by a 1-2 Pirate finish in the boys pole vault. Then, later in the afternoon, 5A defending state champion Dalton Milburn repeated as league champ in the discus with a throw of 164-4.
Marist earned victories on the track in the only finals of the day. Junior Monica Anderson won the girls 3,000 meters in 10:53.38. Sophomore J.P. Kiefer took home the boys 3,000 meter title out-kicking Springfield's Jason Mahnesmith and Marshfield's Connor Devereux to win in 9:14.88.
On the girls side, Marshfield has 53 points through four events while Springfield is second with 48. The Pirates have 66 points through five events on the boys side with Marist in second with 57 points. Marshfield has 119 total points to lead the co-ed division. Springfield is second with 85 followed by Marist with 71.
