Eugene, OR - The Marshfield boys and the Marist girls won the Midwestern League district cross country championships Wednesday at Alton Baker Park.
Marist junior J.P. Kiefer hung around with Marshfield's Connor Devereux for the majority of the race. Kiefer, who also plays soccer for the Spartans, out-kicked Devereux to claim the boys individual title in 16:28.
Devereux led a 2-3-4 finish by the Pirates who finished with 35 team points. Marist was second with 39 points. Both teams qualify for the 5A state meet Saturday, November 3rd at Lane Community College.
Qualifying as an individual was Springfield senior Brennan Holmes who finished fifth in 16:48.
In the girls varsity race, 2011 champion Monica Anderson of Marist defended her crown by winning in 18:59. The Spartans top five went 1-3-4-9-22 to garner 39 team points.
Marshfield's Shaylen Crook placed second in 19:08. The Pirates finished with 62 points to take second, just two point ahead of Churchill.
The Spartans and Pirates advance to the state meet.
Individually, Churchill junior Olivia Goodheart placed fifth in 20:23 to qualify for the state meet as well.
