COOS BAY, Ore. - The Marshfield Pirates lost to North Valley by 16 in an early season game.

"We kind of use that game as something not to do because we were really bad that game, said sophomore Rylee Trendell. "We were just not ourselves."

"They shoot it really well, and we didn't defend that well, and they'll shoot it again well if we don't defend," Pirates coach Doug Miles said.

With a season of play under their belts, the teams meet again with the playoffs on the line.

"It used to be a couple seniors, some juniors and a bunch of sophomores," said sophomore Jake Miles, "and now we're a group, and you can see that out on the court."

A win on Saturday would move Marshfield into the elite eight and the state playoffs for the first time in 33 years.

North Valley brings plenty of expereince as the reigning state champs, but coach Miles has coached a couple state championships himself and has talked to the team about what it takes to win on the big stage.

"It's a different level of play and you have to raise up your intensity level," the coach said, "but the teams that defend and rebound and take good shots are the teams that win."
