RENTON, Wash. (AP) - Wide receiver Mike Williams has been placed on injured reserve by the Seattle Seahawks after suffering a broken left ankle in Sunday's win over Chicago.

Coach Pete Carroll said Williams underwent successful surgery on his injury on Tuesday.

Williams was hurt in the third quarter of Sunday's 38-14 win when he was tackled after making his second catch. The injury capped a disappointing season for Williams, who had a breakout 2010 only to struggle in 2011. Williams finished the year with 18 catches for 236 yards and one touchdown, after having 65 receptions a year ago.

Seattle signed cornerback Phillip Adams to the active roster out of concern that reserve cornerback Kennard Cox may not be ready for Saturday's game versus San Francisco.
