On Thursday, May 9th at 7:10 p.m. I visited Empire Dock in Coos Bay and was surprised by the red/orange colored water. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was dense areas of WOOD CHIPS filling the bay. I have visited the dock many times and have never seen such a thing. I'm curious if this was an isolated incident or a regular occurrence. It must have washed ashore by the tide, blown from a loaded boat passing by or perhaps a spill in the water from the North Spit/Horsefall area. I was also quite taken aback at the lack of Sea Gulls in the area. Usually every day there are dozens of them. This day there were only maybe a half dozen. I wondered if it may have something to do with the wood chips that polluted the water clear out past the end of the dock and stretched as far as the eye could see down the beach on both sides of the dock. Either way, the amount of wood chips in the water concerned me. One would think the environmental impact would be grave to the sea life in the area.

There has been police action going on at the Umpqua Lighthouse Viewpoint on Highway 101 South of Winchester Bay all afternoon (04/28/2013). I went up there to ask what was going on; maybe it was the man who went missing up there about this time last year. They said it was not him but when I asked if it was a body they found, he said, "I can't comment on an ongoing investigation."

I ran into Ricky Maranon at the SECOND BEACH ACCESS in Winchester Bay where I took photos of the beached seal on the 26th. I forgot to mention which beach access I was at when I took the photos so poor Ricky has been walking all the beaches looking for the seal. He was in the right place today but the seal and the signs that had been posted around it were gone. I didn't feel too bad for Ricky though...who else gets paid to walk the sandy ocean beaches? It was very nice to meet you Ricky! Debbie (themom51)

In Reedsport, we've got flooded surface streets but Highway 101 isn't affected at this point. I haven't checked Old Town on Highway 38 yet. Winchester Ave is blocked at the intersection of 101 due to a surcharging manhole (contamination). I spotted some men towing debris on Scholfield Creek. I also spotted some flooding on 11th Street behind the 76 station.

Was taking a walk with my wife and kids, when i heard the sirens. Well be as curious as I am, I decided to see what was going on. Found the Firefighters at Sweeney's Auto Body and Paint in Coos Bay, OR. At the time there was just alot of smoke as they was trying to get the front bay door open. As the door came open, the smoke thickened and the fire started to come through the roof. This is when i captured the video and pictures of the blaze. Thanks to the efforts of the Coos Bay Fire Dept, the neighboring buildings was not damaged, even though Sweeney's was completely lost.

We were traveling East on SR38 when we came upon a fire on the river side of the road at milepost 27. No fire crews on the scene yet, just an ODOT truck and couple of other trucks pulled over. Just minutes later we encountered an ambulance and fire truck responding to the scene, coming from the East. No idea what the cause was and can't find any online news about. We got home to late to catch the local news on TV.
